Resumen
Peruvian toponymy constitutes a historical legacy that must be valued in its educational, social and economic dimensions. The purpose of this study was to investigate if the teachers who work in the districts of the Eastern Cone of Metropolitan Lima know the meaning of the place names of this geographical space. For this, an investigation was developed under the quantitative approach, with a descriptive design. The data was collected using the survey technique. A questionnaire was used as an instrument, made up of twelve questions referring to native place names. The study found that teachers, 93.04%, do not know or value our fruitful toponymic heritage. Therefore, it is necessary to design and introduce this vitally important theme in the curriculum to strengthen our multilingual and multicultural reality. © 2020, University of Cienfuegos, Carlos Rafael Rodriguez.
