The objective of the present research was to determine the level of English language learning with the use of self-study techniques in high school students. The type of research of this study was applied with a quantitative approach. The design was pre-experimental, 20 fourth year high school students were selected. The instrument used was the written test, pre-test and post-test using the exam with the three competencies of the Minedu; Communicating orally in English, reading different types of texts in English and writing different types of texts in English. The results show that most of the students in the pre-test before the application of the self-study techniques obtained a low level in English, however after the application of the self-study techniques the level rose significantly; prior to the application of the self-study techniques, the learning level of the students was the initial level with a percentage of 18 students (81.82%), then in the process level with 2 students in a percentage (9.09%). After applying the self-study techniques, the learning level of the sample increased surprisingly, reaching 90.91% in the expected level of achievement and 9.09% the level of outstanding achievement. In conclusion, when observing the results, through the written test, many students do not have a good level of English and cannot develop their learning in this language due to the little interest in learning and the lack of didactic materials that help to constantly practice this language, but once the techniques were applied, the results were favorable, showing that with didactic materials and well elaborated techniques, the students can learn any language, thanks to the fact that the self-study techniques presented cover the 4 skills of the English language. © 2024, Associacao Iberica de Sistemas e Tecnologias de Informacao.
