Objective: Determine the relationship between Burnout Syndrome (BS) and the personal finances of workers at a penitentiary establishment in Trujillo, Peru. Materials and Methods: A non-experimental and cross-sectional design was adopted, observing the SB and personal finances at a specific point in time. The studied population consisted of 264 workers from a Peruvian penitentiary establishment. A survey was applied to 157 collaborators using questionnaires designed by Maslach and Jackson, 1981 for the SB and an adapted questionnaire from Mori, 2018 for personal finances. Data were processed using SPSS v.24 software. Results: A significant relationship was found between BS and personal finances, with a p-value of 0.000, surpassing the significance threshold of 0.05. A significant percentage of workers reported symptoms of SB and challenges in managing their personal finances. Therefore, the stated hypothesis was confirmed: there is a direct and significant relationship between the SB syndrome and the personal finances of the studied workers. Conclusions: The research revealed a complex interaction between emotional and psychological well-being and personal financial management. The SB, as a response to chronic work stress, was frequently manifested among the studied workers. The lack of financial education, identified in the participants, can exacerbate stress and burnout. It is essential to consider not only financial factors but also the entire work environment to address and prevent SB. © 2023, Editorial Ciencias Medicas. All rights reserved.
