Strategic planning is a public management tool that allows building the future, allowing situational change from the resources and opportunities that organizations have, reducing threats and disadvantages. Social inequality is a characteristic element of Latin American societies, in view of which the promotion of social development is a highly necessary aspect for public organizations. The objective of this work is to analyze the use of strategic planning for social development in Lima, Peru. The research corresponds to a field work, with the application of a questionnaire as a data collection instrument. The results showed that public sector organizations moderately apply the elements suggested by strategic planning, thus hindering the methodological aspects necessary for an effective approach to social development. © 2022, Universidad del Zulia.
